2010 - 365 Poems

My Year as a Poet by The Crafty Scribe

This is an experiment to write a poem or a short verse a day, and post it to this blog.

I'm not a trained poet, just an enthusiastic scribe wanting to create something new each day. I don't truly know my stanza from my meter, but I hope to improve and get my poetic license someday! Expect the weird, the strange and the inner workings of the Crafty Scribe's mind.

Please pass on the blog address to all your verse and lyrical loving friends. I hope you will join me, and read my daily scribbling.

Moving Onwards by 190!

Back in 2010, I challenged myself to write a poem or a short verse a day, and post it to this blog. It's now been 18 months since I finished My Year as A Poet. Where does the time go?

I gave myself those 18 months to recover from the original daily blog postings, and now, I am ready to start it all over again, the fool that I am! Although as I was beginning the new blog in the middle of the year, I thought 6 months was too short a time after my last experience. No easy road out for me!

"If I could complete a year of poems, how about 18 months?" I thought. I worked out that would be 549 days. I could have rounded it up to 550 to included New Years Day 2014, but then I thought I'd go 5 better... to 555 days.

Why 555? According to many spiritual teachers, the number 555 is a sign of change and the flow of energy. I thought it related to the blog. I spent a year writing a poem every day, then rested for 18 months. Now the tide has turned. It's time to begin the flow of words in my life again.

555 Days as a Poet by The Crafty Scribe is the continuation of the experiment.

I'm not a trained poet, just an enthusiastic scribe wanting to create something new each day. I don't truly know my stanza from my meter, but I hope to improve and get my poetic license someday! Expect the weird, the strange and the inner workings of the Crafty Scribe's mind. Let's ride the waves once more.

Please pass on the blog address to all your verse and lyrical loving friends. I hope you will join me, and read my daily ditties.

If you enjoy all that is scrapbooking, memory keeping and journal writing, please take a look at my other blog - The Crafty Scribe where you will find ideas, photos and general musing on writing, creativity and crafting including writers prompts and inspiration to recording your own life's journey.

As for this blog, I'm afraid we have come to the end. I have left a selection of 25 poems to peruse, as for the additional 340 entries - news about their future will be announced soon.

Thank you once again for travelling with me for the 365 days in 2010. I hope you will now stay with me for the journey of 555.

Best wishes to you all.

"Black Holes" (Entry 346)

What do you avoid?
A Void in your life?
Or are you trying to be wholesome?

"Real Heroes" (Entry 336)

Where have all the heroes gone?
Was there ever a team of cape?
Are they fantasy? A childhood dream?
A figment for escape?
I see the heroes, lads and lassies,
They really do exist.
They’re in fatigues, scrubs and uniforms,
I think you know the list.
You’ll find them in the hospitals,
And on the field of battle.
You’ll find them on the streets of Britain,
Any emergency they tackle.
So don’t forget the real heroes,
Whatever job they do.
Look beyond the films and comic books.
They’re always there for you.

"Adrift" (Entry 321)

Forgotten yacht in the bay.
Have you had your salad day?
The plaything of the rich or idle,
Their interest now is at low tidal.
Once you soared on crest and wave.
To their currents and fads, you’re a slave.
Bobbing boat tied and forsaken in the rain.
Don’t you wish you were moored up in Spain?

"Safe Within" (Entry 285)

Infiltration of
Chasms beyond.
Breach beneath
The cavern
To uncover
Clandestine shards
Of secrets smashed
To smithereens.
Suppress to shield.
Enshrouded to save the soul.

"Snakes On The Brain" (Entry 263)

Snakes slide through my mind.
Overwhelming my dreams.
Following my steps.
I dart back and forth.
They watch with wonderment.
I stop to feel
Their protection.
They heal.
Fears gone.
I let go.
Awakening beyond.

"Look Back in Happiness" (Entry 254)

Sunny days.
Barmy ways.
Honeyed isles.
We stayed awhile.
Love and laughter.
Remembered ever after.

"Metallic Legends" (Entry 250)

Metal pots of death,
Take aim and blast your fatal ray.
It is your goal -
Universal Rule.
Ready - Fire - Exterminate!

"Brain Barrage" (Entry 218)

Tug from the air
That string of imagination
And grasp it in your hand.
Hold it tightly
As you pull it down
To reach the thought balloon.
Burst it!
Release the ideas.

"Mute Moment" (Entry 191)

What turns to mute
  On distant lies.
The fallow walk
  On high moon rise.
An unmarked vein slashed
  But naught pours out.
Left aeon ‘gain unspoken
  A world, praise devout.

"Exam-tied" (Entry 189)

Country wide.
Revision eyed.
Brain fried.
Ride the tide.
Thought cried.
Notes guide.
Mind hide.
Heart sighed.
Answers denied?
Bright side.
Solve and decide.
Task applied.
Memory provide.
Pen glide.
In a stride.
Best tried.
Over - survived!
Grade supplied.
End in pride.

"Broken Heart" (Entry 163)

I wish I could mend a broken heart
With sticky tape and glue.
Hold it together with ribbon and string.
To cherish it as new.

"Sand" (Entry 156)

Sand in your ears.
Sand 'tween the toes.
Only you know where the sand goes.
Sand on the beaches.
Sand near the shore.
Sand and the sea, it's what I adore!

"Voting Day" (Entry 126)

Add your cross,
Make your choice,
In the small box,
You have a voice.
Every vote matters,
In this election,
Pompous egos will shatter,
Create new direction.
Make your mark, have your way.
Go to the ballot, it’s Voting Day!

A Historic Day! Good luck to al those voting, and all those standing.

"Toast the Host - The Wry Stephen Fry" (Entry 101)

Why, oh why, oh why,
Can’t I speak like Stephen Fry?
Eloquent, droll and urbane,
Effortlessly able to entertain.
Fluent in knowledge and repartee.
Proficient in badinage - the consummate emcee.
Quips aplenty ready to supply,
The perfect host for QI.

"Inhabit the Impossible" (Entry 93)

Take me to another place,
A world beyond my own space.
Eons to love and live and fly.
I’ll travel to Riva upon Greldik’s ship,
Stand in The Citadel, before I slip,
Across time and cosmos in a small blue box,
A place of multi-dimensional shocks.
Until I reach a desert tomb,
To assist in The Mummy’s exhume.
Tour The Sandman’s world of things unseen.
Be taught the magicks by Constantine.
Indy’s the prof’ who’s most able,
To separate fact from fable.
Have adventures with Stephen Brown.
Grab a bite - maybe a stake - in a Vampire’s Town.
Take a Trek across the stars.
Sci-fi and fantasy are best by far.
Scenes of amazing creation.
Escape into your imagination.

"In Remembrance For Aye" (Entry 90)

Falling o’ the bitter rain,
Fits the sorrow in our hearts.
We’ve lost the sunshine of thy smile,
Downcast and woe, now we’re apart.
You will ne’er be forgotten,
With that we guarantee,
When e’er we see a rainbow,
We will always think on thee.

Dedicated to Tess,
a good friend gone from this world far too soon,
and all our loved ones who have departed.

"The Corner of My Diary" (Entry 79)

On the corner of my diary,
There is a perforation.
A quarter circle to tear away,
After each eve’s termination.
Twenty four hours tick by.
As that time is done.
Then rip the edge to reveal a bite.
A place to rest your thumb.
Tattered paper fragment scatters,
Represents bygone days.
All that is left for you to see,
A passing of your ways.
As each page turns and eaten up.
An empty chunk is all you see.
Of a life slowly gnawed away.
Dates pass into memories and flee.

"My Passion for Chanel and Fashion." (Entry 71)

I like Dior, Prada and Gucci,
Versace, YSL, Burberry and Pucci.
I think that Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein,
Tommy Hilfiger and Cavalli are all quite fine.
If you gave me Louis Vuitton, Boss, DKNY or Kors,
and Miu Miu, Mulberry, Moschino; I would be yours!
Have you met Valentino, Chloe, and Chris Kane?
Also the two R's - Oscar and Sonia, long may they reign.
I admire Armani, Bottega, Celine and D&G,
Gaultier, Marni, but there's just one house for me.
In Parisian Fashion - a leading light.
Be it high style or pret-a-porter. They are sure to delight.
With No. 5 in the air, head to their salon,
It’s a different world in rue Cambon.
A glimpse of tweed, a Camellia or two.
Dressed in jersey make your debut.
Leather quilting, pearls, gold chains by the score.
Add a little black dress, and you’re out of the door.
In a ballet pump, or two-tone kitten heel,
In black, white or beige, it’s sure to appeal.
That famous logo, whenever I see,
My heart skips a beat, at Coco Chanel's CC.
Their cosmetics and perfumes, I continue to hoard.
But, oh, the elegant clothes! I wish I could afford.
I love wearing my vintage blazer find,
Without my sunglasses and specs, I'd be near enough blind!
I wear my black flats, and earrings with pride.
When I bought my 2.55 handbag, I cried.
With Karl Lagerfeld in charge, it’s sure to endure,
Fashion’s great house of chic haute couture.
The little black dress, handbag and perfect suit.
Mademoiselle Chanel, Gabrielle, it's you we salute.
And with this, I send you a Rouge Coco kiss! xx
